Looking to upgrade P3, which stepping ?

ok, I'm looking to upgrade from a P3 500 slot 1 on a ASUS P3V4X mother board, I'm happy with the mobo, that's gonna stay, but the cpu has got to go........
Which P3 should I get ?
I see some advertisements for P3 700's that where garenteed to run at 1ghz. (looks like those are sold out tho....)
Any help would be nice

cC0 stepping seems to be the most popular, if you can find it. Most mail order places won't search for what you want. PCNut however will pre-test for a little extra. If you are new to overclocking, and want a sure fire overclockable chip, then PCNut is probably your best bet.

You could spend a lot of time looking for a cC0 chip, even then there is no guarantee it will OC well. I do recall seeing a post recommending PC Club, they have their cpu's in plastic carriers and you can see the s-specs.

cC0 or cD0 is what you are really looking for. The cD0 might be a bit more stable at higher speeds though. Should try to steer clear of the cB0 if you want to do some high overclocking.

ah, and remember the days when cbo was a good overclocking steping? :lol anway, you could always go with a cheap duron system. No, I'm not an amd natzi, but i think it would be cheaper(even after getting a new mobo) and run alot faster.

Mhz to Mhz no duron would touch a P3. Had you said Atholon you would have sparked a debate real quick :).

Not trying to spark a debate or anything, but a duron at the same mhz as a P3 would beat the P3 by just a little bit. In my opinion, AMD is the way to go, but i like intels, they aren't as hott. LoL
