I unlocked my 950 duron (morgan) and jumped the L-7 and L-3 and cut the L-6 following the interactive settings on ocinside. Now it won't post. Did I not get the bridges cut fully? Or is it the ecs k7vzm I have it in? (no case, just laying on a box with a pci vid card ,psu, and 2 gig hd with 98se, & 64mb pc100) I also cleared cmos, and the system clock is set to auto detect.

is that how u unlocked your cpu ??
u are only meant to reconnect the L1 bridges

I followed the interactive razor and pencil guide, and I did connect the L1 bridges. I also set the v core and L-3 & L-6 brdges to the spec for a 1100. at 1.625 vcore instead of the 950's 1.6. This is just a test, and Its my first time trying this on old stuff. And the duron is a couple years old, as is the ecs k7vzm, its a P.O.S. mobo anyway, so my little experiment is not hurting anything of importance anyway.

I might not be posting do to the inability to run at that speed. Try either more voltage or a slower speed. I would give it 1.85v and see how that helps your situation. So long as you have some reasonable cooling.
Best of luck to you.
Also the chip is a spitfire, not a morgan. The spitfires were alright O/Cers, but the morgans were much better.

I thought it was a spitfire too, but according to the serial numbers, it only 64mb cache, and spitfires are supposed to be 128. I'll try bumping the v-core, and give it another shot. I'm also going to try the 9v battery trick, to burn the bridges. I tried with a exacto knife as stated, but I can't really tell if I cut them. From one angle they do look cut but looking at them from the side they apear to be intact.

You were right {PMS}Fishy! I took the Vcore up to 1.85! running at 11.5 X100, and stable so far. Temp is 38°c idle and 45°c Load. with just a coolermaster with the copper plate. Not bad at all for a 950 on a ecs k7vzm board. Gonna burn it in with sandra, and see what happens.:D :D
I thought both the spitfires and the morgans had 64k L2 cache. How many L1 bridges did it have? I think spitfires only had 4, while Morgans had 5, I could be mistaken, however. You can always use a program like WCPUID to grab the cpuid code of the processor, and check that way. I think the morgan cores were 670, but I don't remember exactly.

It has 4 L1 bridges. There is a post here with a link showing all the variations of the athalon/duron models, and it claimed a 950 was a spitfire, and spitfires were 128k cache. I think it was the link to the socket jumper /adapters. Wcpuid shows it as a model 3 duron 64 k cache. running now at 1173, 102x11.5

128k L1 cache. Same for all athlons no matter what. All durons only have 64k of L2 cache.

ive got a 600mhz duron that will 1ghz @ 1.775V :D nice little chips

I think the biggest surprise for me is the fact that the ecs mobo is handling it. Before I unlocked this cpu, It wouldn't take a 2mhz jump without shutting down. I just checked the ecs site, and they have a bios update that will allow 266 fsb. Maybe this board isn't a POS after all, to bad its a micro.

Ok, I made a mistake. Last night I was using an old 12 inch monitor, that has really low brightness and contrast. Its ready for the dumpster. I switched to a 17 from another one of my p.c's today, and checked my via-hwm and sandra. Its running at 1.93 vcore. Its still not running hot, did a quickie 10 run burn-in and it went to 43°c. I'm going to bump the multi up and try it at the current Vcore.

Definately a spitfire. It has 128K L1 cache (64k data and 64k instruction) and 64k L2 cache. Incidently, it also has about 25 million transistors.

Well, I think I spoke too soon about the ecs mobo. I was running a 100 run burn-in with sandra 2004. run 62 it locked. pulled the plug and rebooted, then it showed as a 850 running at 1.93vcore. I don't understand how it made 1.93 in the first place, all the L-7's closed should only be 8.5. Anyway I tried sandra again for the heck of it, and it locked and now won't post. I fried something, hopefully the mobo, but I don't want to risk putting that cpu in my "good" pc, and all my others are socket 7 and one P2.
