Is there any way to get dolby digital sound from the onboard sound on this motherboard? Im using a digital optical cable, but its only playing in pro logic 2. I had it playing in digital on my Asus.

I think that it depends on the source material. Normal sound and stuff will be just AC3 in stereo, which it sounds like your reciever is putting into prologicII. On a DVD or something it should give you DD 5.1 though.

^^^ yup - it all depends on the source - and if your sound card is dolby certified.

The only sound 'card' that can encode DD is the MCP-T on Nforce and Nforce2 platforms. Other cards can only pass-through AC-3 signals from pre-encoded sorces (like DVDs). As far as I know all cards with digital out support AC-3 pass-through, no certification necessary (not even sure if dolby 'certifies' anything).
If you have a 5.1-channel sound card, you can use analog cables and connect the individual cables up to the 6-channel input on your receiver. That is the closest to true digital surround sound you can get from a non-nforce sound card on content that is not pre-encoded (i.e. games).

Ah ha! forgot, my Asus was nforce 2 and the Abit is not. Damn, all well, the Abit loks SWEET lit up with all the lights in my case and seems to be a solid board. But, for onbaord, the sound from the nforce chip was awsome!
