My brother is having a weird problem w/ his hdd(s) and I CANNOT figure out the problem. He randomly started getting blue screens then finally one of the times his HDD got corrupt. He reinstalled windows and had the same problem over and over. He got a new WesternDigital HDD which gets picked up in bios but when he trys to install windows, pick it up in windows, etc it wont pick up and it came w/ no software etc to format if thats what needed. If anyone knows what the problem is will you please let me know. Thanks.

I'd need more info to diagnose the problem. First off, I would try updating the BIOS. You shouldn't need a driver unless the new drive is on a separate card or a special onboard IDE controller. If it is connected to the motherboard directly, it may need an IDE controller driver supplied by the motherboard manufacturer.

System specs would help..Format that new drive that may be why windows does not see it..As far as the blue screens that could be a heat issue a psu issue ,ram ,video card ect .. More info would be helpfull...Have you formatted the origional drive ? And reinstalled windows on it ?

Dont do anything to the bios yet,,You have a system that was working with a hard drive in it and this problem you are having sounds like an install issue not a mainboard issue..

Isn't there some WD diagnosis software you can download from the WD site? Maybe you want to give that a shot.

Problem has been fixed....If a mod reads this will you please delete the thread...TY....turns out the new hdd he bought was faulty or something because he went and bought another today (maxtor instead of cheap WD junk) and it worked fine.
