I have two wd 120 harddrives, no sata connections. I have one IDE to SATA converter that came with my nf7-s. Without buying anything more, I was hoping to use the convertor to take one harddrive from IDE to SATA and plug it into MB, and put the other harddrive alone on an IDE ribbon.

From reading around, I am guessing this will indeed work. Will it run as fast as the slowest part, the IDE, or would it be better to run both on the same type, even if IDE? Is the speed increase still worth it to raid with IDE?

Do any PCI raid cards come with not just cables, but IDE to SATA convertors as well?

Thanks for the help

I know that promise offers a RAID chipset that allows you to stripe SATA & PATA drives together. I have it on my motherboard. So it is possible. Without that type of controller, you would have to run a software RAID, which can suck. I would just get a RAID card with two IDE connectors and forget about the SATA convertor. Sometimes they don't work so well, especially in RAID setups.
