View Full Version : Northbridge voltage really does help fsb overclock
i upped my northbridge voltage to 1.75 and was able to get 20 more mhz on my fsb!!! running 220 now, was never stable at this speed.

NB voltage has always been a key to OCing.
Cool, thanks for the info. I have the KV7 too and thought it was my ram holding me back (only have been able to push it to 207Mhz so far...pretty crappy for Corsair). I will try upping the NB voltage this weekend and see if it gets me anymore Mhz. I have tested my AGP/PCI at lower FSBs so I know it will run stable up to 74/37. 37 x 6 = 222, so I should be able to get to 222Mhz if the ram doesn't fail me. Maybe all it takes is o/cing the NB?
Thanks for the tip, I will try it out.
funny, i thought it was my ram on that board too, but the statement "my mushkin ram is holding me back" just sounded like gibberish :D

Yea it makes a huge difference. I'm testing at 230 fsb with 1.9V. :D
oof, thats a little high for my stock northbridge cooling i think, at least abit put a fan on there. seriously though, at 220 i would get no post without upping the northbridge voltage, wish i had done that a long time ago. backed down to 215, ram passed 18hrs of memtest, want 2.4g on my chip REAL bad but i dont think the core can handle it, won't stay stable @ 12*200 even with 2.1vcore :) guess 2.36 is where we're stuck at for now :(
Um...my BIOS says 2.xx, not 1.xx for the NB voltage. Anyway...
Thanks again for the tip ogboot. I was able to get 6 more Mhz by overvolting the NB to 2.75. I tried 2.85 but it didn't help me get any further and I didn't want to volt it any higher than that (that little voice in my head warned me not to risk the mobo for a few more Mhz). So the end result is overvolting to 2.75 got me from 206.8 to 212.8Mhz.

NB voltage has always been a key to OCing.
not on my rigs it hasnt, on occaision its helped, but im running at 1.6vdd, only .1 volt up from stock.........made no difference to me, it runs fine at 1.5 but wont pass prime, and i like it 100%
without upping the northbridge voltage there were settings that i had previously tried that would give me BOSD if they booted in to windows at all, so it definitely helped my board. kinda like agp voltage i guess, uppping it never did a thing for my video cards but some people report higher overclocks and increased stability.
how can i up the north bridge voltage? i have an epox 8rda+

it would be in the BIOS where the rest of your voltages are... it would be under either AGP or Chipset if it's there...
what's the highest you all would reccomend going in a passively cooled nForce2 Ultra 400? (DFI NFII Ultra Infinity)
the only voltage4s i have that i can set are for CPU, RAM and AGP. Which one is the Northbridge?
some mobos don't offer northbridge voltage adjustments :(
you could always check the manual or their website to be certain

if its an early 8rda+ you cant adjust the nb voltage, i think it only came in with the rev 2, but then im an abit man, not epox, so i might be wrong
