View Full Version : New computer - no post or monitor signal
(need quick reply)
put everything together, i get no post, no beeps, or anything on the monitor. Reseated the ram, but nothing else yet. Fans spin up, im running it without a harddrive just to see if it would boot up. Im using an abit nf7-s and there is a red light near the bottom of the motherboard, is that supposed to be there? i assume red=bad, green=good? i figure the problem is either the cpu or the motherboard is shorting out on the stand offs. any ideas?
system:
abit nf7-s
barton 2500
radeon 9800 pro
pc2700 corsair 512mb
sparkle 350w
thanks
upon reading a few posts, i see a lot of people are having problems with their nf-7 bios. is this such a common problem? i really hope that isnt the case here

That would be my first guess. I would definately pull the board out of the case and try it. Also, try reseating your video card.

im not quite sure how to turn the computer on without a power button (never done it before). if the standoffs turn out to be the problem, how do i go about fixing it? by the way, none of the leds on my keyboard light up, if that means anything

You can run the power wire jumper out of the case and hook it up, or, look in your manual to locate the proper pins and short them out with a screwdriver (just for a sec) that will also start it.
If it's a standoff problem, make sure there are not any extra standoffs that are shorting out. Chances are that the board would have been slightly misaligned, which causes the ground (if that is the prob) and just replacing it in the case after verifying it works will probably be ok.
The keyboard lightup is part of the post routine, thats why you cant see any leds lit.

a motherboard standoff was the offender.
but ive noticed, sometimes upon posting, there is a small beep then the normal post beep, but only sometimes. no error messages come up or anything, should i worry? it hasnt done this in the past 5 bootups.

You should be ok with that, all four of mine do it occasionally as well. As long as the system is posting ok then you're alright:)
Glad to see you fixed it:)
