i dont know where to put this, its kinda hardware...kinda...i think...maybe we should have a "weird problem troubleshooting" thread? heh...
alright, this computer (older, irrelevant specs) uses dialup. the one next to it connects to the internet via this one, through the network and the spiffy proxy i use. (analog X proxy)
it worked fine for...well, about 6 months. Then, my modem died. (well, i killed it...stupid isa POS!)
now i've got some generic us robotics 56K pci card. (probly v.90, even used "us robotics internal 56K" drivers off the windows 98 cd...weird...)
it works. (dialup never works WELL,but it works.)
however, if i have my proxy running and i turn the other computer on, this one resets. as if someone hit the reset button...just like that. (when the other one gets into windows)
now it does this regardless if that one was on then i turn this one on, or if this one was on and i turn this on. this just resets....but only when i have the proxy running, and the other comuter asks for the internet...
now my first thought is a conflict of some kind...but those usualy cause things to stop responding, not reset the computer. Any idea what could couse this?
back in the day i had a bad NIC and this would reset when i tied to use the network, but it works fine offline with the proxy off. (if the proxy is on it tries to connect, that computer always wants the internet for its $^#% AV or something...it cant wait. ever.) then this one starts to connect, then resets. any help is appreciated :-/
