It was nice and cool over the weekend. 21c Ambient temps in my apt. last night so I decided to play a little. I'm using a CAK38 w/ the delta fan for cooling and I was able to get to 1053 but I needed 2volts to get stable.

There has been a great deal of discussion regarding cooling vs. voltage. At 21c ambient, I'm running 18c Idle before and 31c load after an hour of Prime95. Is 2v too much? I'd have to be inclined to say my temps are low enough to support that voltage.

What is the rough metric for reduced life of a 1.65v processor running @ 2.0v? I love seeing SiSoft scores that are higher than a AMD 1GHz and P4 1.2Ghz.

Willys, I think if you're careful and have great cooling, you'll be ok. Sounds like you're really being careful. I think we all agree that it'll decrease the life span of the CPU by a little bit. How much? Who knows? Maybe lower it down to lasting only 4-6 years instead of 10? Who knows? I made up those numbers, I don't really know. However, I've never had a CPU that didn't make it to my next upgrade, so who cares? I personally know who owns three of my last four CPUs and these CPUs are all still working fine after being overclocked. Use common sense, like you've been doing and you'll be ok.

Running@ 18C idle and 31C full load is facinating temp. I'm sure your baby chip will be just fine even with the voltage of 2V. With your such good temp, I dont see why your chip's life span can be at stake. I think mostly it's the Temp that determines the life span of the chip rather than the X number of Volatage. I also agree with Batboy. well said!

I cannot get over the drop in temp. Temps have actually gotten better after running prime 95 over two days for a total of about 12 hours. I was very skeptical of the "Burn-In" actually working but it seems to have made a noticable difference. ...Now if the ambient temp. would just stay relatively cool. Thanks for the replys.

The temps sound great, but at ambient 21c, I would be mighty skeptical of 18c idle!

A fan alone on a heat sink is not going to lower your temperature to less than the air it is blowing on the processor. Your system will generate some heat in the best circumstances! These things are not air conditioners after all.

I'd guess the temps are off a bit. Try this: When totally cold, turn on the computer and immediately go into the bios and check the temps. They should be near to ambient and you will probably see them rise as you watch. If they are initially lower than ambient, you must adjust your scale.

Now if you have active cooling, ... I take it all back!! :)
