which one is better for overclocking and gaming?
i have celeron 566@850 and my friend had athlon slota 550 and it was running faster in 3dmark2k and q3 with same videocard
and i decided to change my mobo and cpu
i know amd is cheaper than intel but i dont know if they are worth it
which one is better?
duron or celeron
t-bird or p3
AMD gives more performance for less money.
As far as speed the T-bird and duron.
The memory they can use runs much faster than the intel chips. You can also "unlock" the amd chips and gives you more options for overclocking.
As far a reliability and stablility the Intel chips win.

For clock for clock, and/or same OC'ed speeds, the P3 will outperform in many games (not all) than the Thunderbird. But the downside of the P3 is that it can't overclock as high as the T-birds.. so you'll lose right there.. there's no questions, no doubt. So, yeah.. if you want to buy a system I mean RIGHT NOW, then get the T-bird system if you are going to do some mad overclocking. Don't get the Celeron system. They are too weak in mhz to mhz comarison with the Durons. The Duron has the Best Performance-to-Price ratio on the planet and perfoms just as good as P3s in office apps. If you are not going to build a system now, then forget the AMD junky and wait for the next gen of P4's Northwood setup. You should be able to spank and molest the AMD 4.

i been looking at 3dmark2001 scores in madonion.com
p3 is about 30% faster than athlon
is that true?

I don't know about 30% but the P3s certainly have the lillly bit more edge on the 3D gaming department. P3s used to be Gaming Lord and *still* is Gaming Lord in mhz to mhz comparison with the Tea-bird, hahaha.
Duron vs. Celeron -- no question, Duron!!!!
But P3 versus T-Bird... call me old fashion, but there's something about a Pinto with a V12 engine that doesn't impress me... if you're going for pure 3dmark score, get the P4 and stop playing around. Otherwise, the P3 is universal and reasonably priced for performance -- not to mention the awesome 3 years retail warranty!!

yeah.. that's the disadvantage on the Durons and T-birds. Their heat issue is so critical that it needs a lot of attention on cooling those even at default clocked speeds. **Usually**, anything goes wrong in the HSF department, nothing happens to P3 chips. But if that happens on the Durons and T-birds, you're out. gone... byebye~~ the chip will likely be cooked and start to smell something.
