Has anyone here ever used this Balsa foam stuff for carving cutom case parts? Have a look at this...

The Screensaver guys on Tech TV were talking about a guy making a custom case out of Balsa Foam. Apparently it is fairly easy to carve and can be hardened with some chemical treatment.

Anyone here have any experience with it?

BALSA FOAM SUCKS!!!! trust me, i had a school project using it, it is soooo easy to break and it irritates the skin. This stuff is horrible. Use other kinds of sculpting foam

That's too bad. It looked like it might have been useful for some of the stuff I would like to try.

Can you suggest any other kind of such foam that has worked well?

HERE's (http://www.goldenwestmfg.com/) a place that I was looking at once. That butterboard urethane foam is machinable, sandable and carvable to about any shape you want. Even sculptors and sign makers use it.
