Hi I have PIII 733 on a CUSL2 on the weekend I thought stuff it I've read a bit about this overclocking thing ie the beginners guide and the like so I'll give it a go.

Now my question is, well not really a question just need some input (Sorry if its a stupid one).

I set the ratio to 133/133/33 and then I slowly went up testing temps etc until I got to FSB/PCI of 160/160/40 therefore the CPU runs at 880 with load temps of 46-47c and idle temps as low as 36-38c is this good.

I also tried it at 166/166/41 which was the last and final setting at that ratio on a cusl2 anyway unless I'm not doing this right, so I loaded winme and I ran 3d mark 2000 no worries at all with temps of 48-49c and idle of 36-38c .
I also tried 133:100:33 ratio and I got it to run at 175/131/44@962 Mhz.
This was all at standard volts of 1.65 and totally stable.

Now I know the temps are a bit high but on standard HSF it's pretty damn good I think.
So what I want to know is where to from here meaning what and how do I go higher FSB but maintain good mem bandwidth also is this what I am suposed to be doing as far as overclocking goes.

Sorry about the long post, any some input from the wealth of knowledge of you guys would be great.

Thanks in advance
Quazza :>

What kind of heatsink and fan are u using?
BTW there are no stupid questions, just stupid answers :)

oh my.....god. you're running at 175mhz FSB? and stable running all games? That is facinating.. Yes that is very good overclock and many users with p3 733 can't reach that high.. not even near your speed. You must have outstanding CPU, RAM, and your CUSL2. And what CAS setting are you at now?

At the moment I'm using the standard HSF but I thinking of getting a Thermoengine I've heard they arent bad any suggestions..

That is very good getting that high an overclock but your temps are pretty high. Get rid of the stock heat sink and get an Alpha or Global win I think you will find in the long run those temps are going to give you problems.Just for comparison I have a P3 750@1000 with an Alpha P3125 under a full load my temp is 35c

Gee thanks, obviously I'm doing this right then like I said I was just fooling around and next thing I know I'm running at those speeds bizzar ay, well who knows what this puppy can do with the right cooling and tweaking.
But I need some new ram probably Corsair as I can only get Cas 333 7/9.
Thanks again Quazza :>)

Yeah your dead right dadx2mj,
I was worried the temps were going too rise to much but they were pretty stable only moved slightly, the biggest jump was from full load too idle but the ambient temp was pretty low as its pretty cool at the moment here in Perth, Australia guess that's lucky but I will definitely get a knew HSF..

Good overclock. You have good stuff to do it with, that's why... congrats. Upgrade the hsf too, that will help things immensely (dare I say, you could go higher?).

Yep, when I built this system I made sure I had some decent hardware this time and it certainly makes a difference although my Video card is getting a little long in the tooth.
A good HSF is really what I need to take them temps down just a little..
