I bought a GeCube ATI 9600XT 256MB. I was so exicited to get rid of my Geforce 2Ti. I've had the card for about 1 month now and I started getting the overclocking itch.
I could get my core to about 560 without artifacts, but the memory was disapointing to say the least. First of all, it's clocked at 250mhz(500) stock!! Second, it won't overclock worth beans.
I thought the stock 9600XT's were clocked at 300mhz(600) stock.
I couldn't even overclock to 270mhz on my card. I was totally ****ed.
So I check the model number on the GeCube site. It turns out my card is the "Budget-Limited Encore Edition".
It has all the specs of the regular 9600XT but I have to assume that the RAM on my card is the cheapest(slower clock) there is.
I did get a good deal on the card, now I know why. I saved $60 Canadian by not going with the genuine "ATI" card but now I regret it. Unfortunately if I want to return my card for the better version I have to wait 2 weeks for it to come in and pay the extra cash.
Buyers beware. I know how excited we all get when buying a new upgrade, but you have to calm down, count to 10 and do your research. They are coming up with all sorts of terms to fool us into thinking we're getting something we're not, so watch out.
Make sure you're buying what you want, and always check the model number before you buy!!!!
Anyone else experience this?
