If I plan to buy a new CPU, which should I get? A Coppermine processor or a Tualatin processor? Do I need a new mobo for this? I just love my BX, but seems that I need a 800 chipset now (815 or other)?
Please give me some advice.....this is part of my long term investment

what is Tualatin processor? im kinda new
Wait on the Tualatin, they are way overpriced for the nominal increase in power (though overclocking these may prove to be quite fun...)
I say go dual PIII processor (FCPGA) and overclock the hell out of some 700 or 800 chips (with plenty of case cooling mind you). You will spend maybe 60% of what a Tualatin and mobo would run, and have 40% more power with the dual procs.
Just one man's opinion...
Where did you see someplace selling these Pinky?
Mictlan the Tualatim cpus are all fcpga and only run at 133mhz.
So if you want to overclock it you will need a very good system.

For sake of information Tualatin processor will be the next P III. It has a 0.13 micron architecture. When you lower the architecture you lower power consumptions and heat production. It is said that PIII Tualatin's will run at 1.1 V.
Well, I think if I want to run higger CPU multipler I have to buy a new mobo as my Iwill BD100+ accepts up to 8x. I have to do a little reserach at Iwill if I can run a 1GHz chip with that mobo.
I read in a tread in this forum that running two processors is not as a good idea for everyone. I mainly run games and Office, so I won't that much of a benefit with two processors (besides running two Work Units for SETI). Besids, I don't like NT that much.
Anyway, which Coppermine will be a good OC? There's a 800E (800 MHz CPU running at 100 MHz FSB), isn't it?
Yes you can get a p3 800 with a 100 fsb.
You can also get a p3 1000 with 133fsb.
The 700 with 100 fsb is a favorite of overclockers.
I hate say it but you might want to consider amd if you want to overclock. 1.4-1.5ghz is not uncommon with these.

I believe that Placid has just given you the best advice, as I was once a Die Hard Intel fan running a BX mobo and was concerned about moving to AMD, but the performance for the price was just to tempting. I decided to start with a Duron first and hoped that it would be Ok .. All I can say is that Intel has seen the last of me for the moment, no problems at all and with the money saved from buying AMD I got more ram and my Duron still benchmarks out well compared to a 1ghz P3.. you should seriously consider the move

Your rite about the duel boards not overclocking well most dont, I think for the money my next PC will be AMD 1.3 [oh remember you will have to spend extra money on AMD cooling if you want to run those at high MHZ. Well i'll kick this p31g@1255 around for a while. Hey Mictlan I gave you a break last night I reformatted my hard drive and was down for 4 to 5 hours reinstalling all of my software [still not done] I was just trying to see if it will help me get a few more MHZ out of this puppy . Well posting in the forum is a good idea to get some extra knowledge before you buy I wish i did. I think i would figure out what you can spend and then do some shopping and compare system's and then go for the best bandwidth with the highest MHZ good luck
Go for an entirely NEW AMD system...
BX mobo are good but they generally will not get all the juice from O/C p3.
So anyway you need a new mobo, and if so ... go for AMD..
DUDE!!!!!!! if you get a P111 MAKE SURE that you get an E chipset NOT an EB if you plan on overclocking such as i have a P111 800E Overclocked to 1,100 MHZ, where as if i had a P111 800EB i might not get passed 950 MHz or so(with good quality RAM and video card on the same FSB).
so all in all go with a P111 Copper 800E or what ever your flavor of speed is.
