See sig for specs:

This has never happened to me before and i have been trying for like 2 weeks to figure out wtf is going on. So ok, heres my problem, each time i reboot/cold boot my rig, my resolution drops all the way down to 640x480, and im running xp, 640 isnt even supported in xp?

I have no idea why this is happening and my card is running at stock speeds still. I am forced to set res back to 1024 on each reboot, its becoming quite a pain.

Im running catalyst 4.2's and i think the first time i started noticing this was after i updated to 4.1's.

If anyone has any ideas on why this could be happening, please let me know, its really starting to bug me.

If nobody knows i think ill just reformat, i have no problem doing that, i tend to do it pretty often, i like to play with settings and i always screw something up :P (totally unrelated to video card, im talkin os here)

Thanks alot for any help.

Forgot to add, could any windows settings cause this? or maybe something gone wrong in the registry? I have uninstalled and reinstalled drivers, tried different monitors, even swapped out PSU's. not too sure whats up with it.

at the rate i re-install, i really should just make a ghost image, would save me ALOT of setup time :)

I think i may have solved the problem, but im not too sure, i am gonna have to reboot a few times to make sure. I just cleaned up and compacted my registry, and after a cold boot, i had normal resolution upon startup.

In the driver. It seems more trouble than its worth anyway.

it may be a heat issue too, i started feeling around the case last night, and my hsf on the card was rather warm, and the ram was pretty warm too. I found an Arctic Cooling VGA Silencer for 13.99 from xoxide.com , so i think im gonna pick that up too, just in case. Probly snag up some ram-sinks as well.

Im about to go restart a few times right now just to see if your advice and the registry cleaning has helped out. Ill post results.

do you have tv out plugged in?
I know with my ATI 9200 if i have the tv out plugged in the resolution goes all funny and the desktop scrolls because the resolution is so small. If this is the problem you can fool around with your display options to get it setup properly.
