i set up 4 processes, and its maxing out all 4cpu's running one client. i had processor affinity checked, but it seems to run a lot slower that way.

would it be better to run 2 clients with 2 processes? or just one with 4?

i think i started off slow cause of the processor affinity option.

thx

You need to run 1 process for each CPU.

I do not check off affinity, as I allow windows to do the delegating for me.

so how i have it with one client and 4 processes im fine?

As long as all the CPUs are running 100% in task manager then you are all set.

SETI isn't multi threaded, so I'm amazed that it's taking up 100% CPU time on all four processors.... Windows must be moving the single thread around to the least used of each of the four processors to have that happen.

If you have 4 CPUs, you'll need four seperate clients running at the same time to use all that power most efficiently.

He said that he has 4 processes running. There is an option in SETI Driver to do that. Look top right.

Ah, OK :) I was confused by the "one client, four processes" thing. I wanted to be sure that he had for instances of it actually running :D

errrrr grrrr i just got back from salem jigpu, i should have brought the quad over lol...jk i dont think im doing it right. it said it has only returned one wu and it should have been 4 :( but all the processors are at 100%...so i dunno, i think its not right. here is my settings in a screen cap.

it shows you have 3 completed wu's waiting to be sent.
If you have a broadband connection most people check the autotransmit. Otherwise you have to manually click the transmit button on setidriver whenever you want to transmit.

i would set that cache higher than 20 with 4cpus ;)

Probally don't have to. He has enough for a week if the servers go down. Looks its taking hime over a day per WUs. I guessing that its 4 P 200 Pros.

its quad xeons 500mhz/with 512kb cache. its slow, because i think i need to tweak it a bit. but i will be upgrading to 2mb's soon.

but yes 20 in cache is fine, its going kinda slow.

it shoudl be going faster though i think...is there any options you recommend. its says cpu dedication is 1.191...but before it was a % number...wahts up with that?

u sure u installed motherboard drivers ??

when i installed mine my mem bandwidth went up and my WU's time went down

its an actual server, everything was installed right. must be some options, i just think it would crunch a tad faster than this.

i dont know how fast they are meant to crunch maybe it will be faster one u got them 2meg ones

Thats really slow for XEONs of that speed.

I had dual 450s that would run between 10-12h per WU depending on the AR.

It changes to that after you have over 100% dedication.

The thing that jumped out at me in the graphic above is that you're running the 3.08 client. The 3.03 client is significantly faster.

You will run 4 processes while crunching and when transmitting or receiving WU's a fifth process will automagically start up and then close after communications are complete.

well i found out that seti doesnt like the 4 processes/one client. in fact it wasnt working that way....nowi have 4 clients one/cpu with affinity checked...and each process with its own cpu assigned. wayyyyyyyyyyy faster :) think i got it goin.

also got my p3 500 laptop crunching too :)

thanks for the help

The calculator in SetiSpy says a P3 500mhz Xeon with 512kb cache should process one WU in 10 hours 41 minutes.
That varies from work unit to work unit but if you're near there then you've got it working :)
