Just stumbled across this, and figured I'd share with y'all: http://www.tomshardware.com/howto/20040122/index.html

While I don't care for Tom's site, the PSU tests still seem to be reasonably accurate. I find it interesting in these results that most of the Sirtec/Topower units all seem to have trouble shutting themselves down when a rail goes flaky (Highpower, Vantec, Global Win, Aerocool, and Silverstone).

Fortron (the Nexus is also one) seems to be doing quite well yet again, though it appears they don't exceed their ratings to the point the older designs did. Still, the 120mm 350w did a decent 413w. Wonder what the new 400w is able to do ;)

Yeah, PSU reviews look better than most of the stuff that comes up at Tom/s nowadays.

I expected better from the Sirtec/High Power 420 watt PSU.

Hmmm...the TrueControl 550w only achieved around 490w when tested. That's not cool...something from Antec should at least be able to do what it's rated for.

They also state that their load tester couldn't max out the True 550 and PC Power & Cooling ;)

I would surmise they maxed out each rail according to the specs on the label to get those watt ratings, but apparently neither PSU shut down or showed major fluctuation.

Ah, ok, my bad.

usually Tom's isn't great with stuff, but their power supply reviews are pretty nice. Nice to see my 300W fortron doing 367W. :)

too bad they didn't test the fortron 530...

why neglect that tank?

Im building a torture tester that will make that PC Power and Cooling cry. Similar to Toms Hardware, but with a higher max on each individual rail and the ability to max out 12v, 3.3v and 5v independently at smaller increments than what I can determine the Toms tester was able to produce.

Overall though I beleive thats one of the best ways to review a PSU, all theyre missing is ripple testing. Im trying to get ahold of a scope meter to do just that.
