View Full Version : Newbie has stupid ?
How's everybody doing today? Im new to overclocking and have a question for you guys. Im running a PIII 900 mhz, 256 meg ram @ 133 mhz, Creative Blaster Mother Board ( at least thats what I think it is) you can check out the board on tigerdirect.com under Blaster PC, SB Live, Anyway my question is in my Bios I have ( CPU Speed 450 MHz). How is this possible if I have a PIII 900 mhz. Do I have to update my bios or something. Also if I try to overclock anything through my bios even the slightest bit my computer will not boot. Is this computer able to be overclocked? I need help please!!! I have an Award Bios
Hi, and Welcome to the Forums!
(finally, I get the honor to say that :) )
About your 450MHz=> Do you mean when you start the computer, and when it displays that Energy Star picture, and the amount of RAM you have and stuff, does it say that the processor speed is 450MHz ?
BIOS => Many people recommend that you don't update the BIOS unless you really have to, for now, don't rush doing that, you might not need to.
Overclocking => If you will overclock, for sure there would be times when your computer won't boot after some change in the BIOS. Sometimes that could be easily fixed by changing one option or the other, however, there is going to be a time when you won't be able to boot at a higher setting, just because your chip or your ram can't handle it (don't be scared, if you do everything properly, you will succeed, but there is a limit to it.)
And please tell us what kind of motherboard you are using.
Just stick around in the forum and learn! Good Luck!

Not a stupid question gotta learn sometime. See if you can set in BIOS user define and put your proccesor speed in by checking next to it [if your BIOS has that setup] or you can [in BIOS] set it to optimized settings and it should recognize your proccesor and set your settings to match your proccesor then you can go to www.rojakpot.com and set the rest of your settings to maximize performance.
If you have any problems let us know :)

what i (a newbie also) suggest is adjusting ur FSB to its minimal setting, then work its way up, or atleast start at 100mhz on the FSB, that way u can know exactly the limits of ur comp, i think (correct me if im wrong) that u can start at 133 on ur FSB then SLOWLY as in 1 setting at a time, no jumping 2 settings, work your way up, that way u can find your boundries

Hello Happy.........welcome to the forum! Don't EVER feel a question is stupid. If you don't ask it, then fry something, that would be stupid.
Enjoy your stay. =)
