I just pulled apart my PII without a hitch. Want to mod the cooling and get a little surface contact on my cache. A couple of questions. How do I tell what speed my cache is? I have noticed in pictures the there is a cache chip on each side of the cpu, mine has both on one side. WHY????
Thanks ...
Not sure what you mean by what speed it is.
The 512k cache runs at 50% of the cpu speed.

I have read that there is 5.5 ns and lower cache. The lower number will mean an easier oc. Any idea on why both chips are on one side of the cpu?
The 450 was the last p2 intel made so maybe they found it to work better that way.

Well it appears that this is 4.4 ns cache. I did some checking. And the 450 was the only one made with the cache one one side of the cpu.....
With this being 4.4 ns cache and I modified the hs to make contact with the cache chips should this cpu be a good oc'er? I am also running dual 21 cfm fans on the HS. I should have adequate cooling.
I say overclock it since you got it, but that P-II was on the upper end of the core design. So, don't expect HUGE overclocking gains.
