I've done some research, and I guess the PIII-700 is discontinued =( So, I guess, now, what I should do is go back to the Celeron-II =)
What do you guys recommend? I use to own a Celeron-II 667, and ran it at 950... that was fine =)
but I'm sure there's something better.
There are still some P3 700s on pricewatch. But of the Celeron II's the 600 is the bomb!

I thought I'd read they were only dropping the slot 1 chips?!?! They're dumping the FC-PGA's too?? I better re-read that....did I miss something?...
I'm jonesing for a P/// 700E FC-PGA chip....hope they make ONE more for me....

I'm assuming you're referring to the post on the front page here....they're just dropping the SECC2 (slot 1) line....(WHEW).
Thought that's what I had read......

I definately recomedn the p3 700 for overclocking, celerons have moved to too low spec at too high a price, if your lucky you get a celeron to 1ghz where it performs as well as an 800mhz p3 (if your lucky) usually you get to aroun 950mhz or so which is only about as fast as a 750mhz p3, with the 700 p3 though 933 should be no problem and many people get to 1ghz+ with them.
Mr. B, hate to tell you this, but the new cD0 stepping does not include the 700, so it does look like Intel is dropping the chip from production.

Maybe Im confused but... I was told that most gaming (in fact I bet all) is not dependent on cache size ( I.E. 128k vs 256k) if this is so, how in the heck can a celeron II not perform with a similar P3? After all, they are exactly they same save 128K of excised cache.

well I dont know, I cant seem to get my hands on a Celeron-II 600. Though I wouldnt mind one... since they are cheap, and I'm on a low budget these days after I scrwed up my car =) But yeah I still wanna get the PIII700 cC0, but I've been to about 3 stores, and they said it's "discontinued".

I don't know why any one would sugest gaming is not dependant on the L2 cache, the L2 cache is simply there to stop the cpu going to main memory for it's instructions which is very slow and seeing as games use the cpu then the L2 cache would also be used, the more cache you have and the more associative it is the better. If you compare benchmarks of most games between a celeron and a p3 clocked 150-200mhz slower they will be about the same (as long as the rest of the components are the same) of course with games using the gpu more and more the differance in clock cpees of the cpu makes little differance but in anything where the cpu counts the celeron will be as fast as p3 150-200mhz slower.
