My head is spinning!!!!

I have been reading about how to overclock from this site. It has really been exciting and I have been gearing up for the day ... the day my PENT 3 450 goes to a PENT 3 600 or more!!! Anyways ... I began today and well, I am lost.

Can someone please help me understand where to start? I realize that I have to increase the bus speed but how do I do this? In the bios? Also, I looked up what my motherboard is and my computer tells me that I have an MB911? What is that? The cache is 512 ... the bios is AMI.

How do I get started? I appreciate your patience and answers! Here are the specs on my comp that I do know:

Pent 3, 320 ram, intel chip set and it is an NEC computer.

Not all motherboards allow overclocking. You need to see if the FSB is adjustable on that particular motherboard. Sometimes it's done in the BIOS and other times it's done with jumpers on the motherboard. You might need better cooling to make any big overclocking gains.

the best way to learn is trial and error...but if your not that daring start by becoming very knowledged about you computer...such as who made that motherboard, there is a chance that it wont overclock much or at all....who made your ram and what speed is it at, this is very important.......tweak3d.net has some good guides on how to overclock if you want reference material.....look at your CPU get the number off it and go to the CPU database see what others have donbt with there systems....

if i were you make a list of all the parts in you computer...such as sound.vid, modem or nic..etc...everything in your machine determins the speed of what you can do

for example i was having a problem getting my CPU over 933 and keeping it stable at any voltage...i had 2 256MB chips in the machine, i took one out and now i can run at 1053 completley stable..

Dabrimus,
umm... is yours already built NEC manufacturer computer? I suppose it is.. Those retail brand computers are hardly overclockable if any. They are not likely to support manual for your motherboard for overclocking.

so at first, see if you can get into the BIOS by restarting or cold starting a computer. Press "Esc" or "Delete" or try other keys on the keyboard simultaneously while it boots. Try and see if this will get you in there. If works, you need to find out what are the next higher up FSB settings you have as option before you do any overclocking. If you dont have any kind of option on changing the speed of FSB mhz, then you're probably out of luck.

If you cannot get into the BIOS, then you need to locate where the jumper is at. It might not even have a jumper. You would need the manual to see if it will tell you or not. More likely there's no manual for doing this though.. because the computer manufacturers dont want you to overclock.

Option 3 would be using a SoftFSB software. If the SoftFSB supports your motherboard, you might be able to overclock. Vcore voltage setting is taken into consideration if you overclock enough. But dont worry at this point. Just see if you can overclock any at all.. With little bit of overclock, altering the Vcore voltage is not necessary usually. okie.... this gets complicated... Now i think it's time for you to give us some feedback and input your progress.

I think I'll stop.. cauze this is gonna go on and on and on.. and Im starting to losing myself here. haha

Those of you who have responded:

Thanks for your patience and advice. I have checked a couple of things and here is what I have found out:

MOtherboard: MB911 (what is that)
RAM: SD133 (but comp us 100)
BIOS: I can get in but cannot find where or how to adjust the bus. I am thinking that I am out of luck. I am going to check tweek and get back to you!

Thanks again adn get back to you soon.
