I recently picked up morrowind used for 13$ at EB and im loving it :D but i have to run it at a farely low resolution and set the view distance pretty near to get descent fps, and even then, after a while of playing (hour - 2 hours) i start getting my fps butchered :( . Will an ti4200 run morrowind nicely? I still havent upgraded my card, cause the last bit of money I ran into I spent on warcraft 3 frozen throne, and some better cooling (getting good cpu temps now btw :) ) instead of a new card.

i upgraded to a ti4200 from a geforce2 mx when morrowind came out and the difference was amazing.
Yes a 4200 does much better then what your using now (Geforce 4 MX420). Its like night and day. Your card is also missing certain DirectX 8 features that a 4200 has. The water in the game will look almost real with a 4200.
If you don't have enough money for a newer FX or Radeon, then a cheap 4200 will do just fine with Morrowind.
I get good framerate at 1024x768 wth the distance slider set more then half way, and running with 2X Antialiasing and 4X Anisotropic. That is with a 2100XP and 512 Megs 3200 DDR.

I know someone who bought a 9600XT, he is also running a 2600 Athlon. I get a higher 3Dmark 2001 score then him with my 2100 Athlon and my overclocked 4200 running at 325/650. My score is around 12800, he scores around 11500 I think. If he overclocks the 9600XT he gets close to what I get for a score. The only time his card beats mine is in 3Dmark 2003 which uses some DirectX 9 features. The 4200 is not a DirectX 9 video card, but there are not a lot of games now that have any DirectX 9 features so a 4200 is pretty good for now.
The score for your Geforce 4, 420 running 3DMark 2001 would probably be under 5000.

overclocked gcards will always be better than most stock cards.
Now i say go with your ti4200! they are great cards, but i suggest removing the stock hs/f and putting on a stock CPU or any CPU heatsink and making ram sinks for it then overclocking it so you can make it just as good as the newer high end cards.
Id get that card if i were you.

Also, one thing that helped me sooo much (please don't yell at me cause it's legal) is that I got a No-CD patch for the game. First I downlaoded all the nessesary patches, then installed the No-CD patch. I read this info in the official morrowind forums and the cd security thing runs while you play the game and therefore hogs up some resources. You will notice your game get smoother afterwards. That's what I always do with Morrowind. I'm sure it will help with you.
And again, don't yell at me, I gave this info knowing he bought the full retail version, so it's perfectly legal.

ti4200s rule. I had a 128mb ddr made by XFX. I sadly sold it on the forums :(
I shouldnt of. I liked it better than my 9600xt
They rule even more if they overclock high.

i took my ti4200 in to the store to get the stock heatsinkfan repinned cuz it was falling off (i still had time on the warranty so i didnt wanna waste it).
when i got it back it was booting to a no video signal.
and i found out why.
the store BROKE my crt monitor port. so i had to run the thing on the lcd port with the adapter. then that one f***ing broke, so i took it in to get it fixed, and theyre "sending it into their provider" right now.
which should take 2-3 weeks
2-3 weeks as of a month and a half ago. im SO p*ssed off right now about it. im running on an mx440 that they loaned me. the funny thing is they have no clue what happened to my card. they sed they would call in with information and call me back if they heard anything.
no call back
no card back
how long should i put up with this bs until i go down to the store and scream at them until i get it back?
and right now i royally think they need to be screwed, so what could i do to a geforce 2 to make it look like an mx440 so they wouldnt notice and i could trade my friends old card in for it?

Thats highly unethical. Not to mention illegal.:temper:

I concur on the no-CD patch. Not only do I not have to scratch my cd all up putting it into the drive 5 times a day, but the game does run and load faster with it. I also highly recommend getting the Morrowind FPS optimizer...it will keep your framerates setting by dynamically adjusting graphic options based on your current framerate.
Morrowind is a hog though with an inefficient graphics engine, even on monster machines it doesn't run that hot. I was originally running it on a GF2mx400 and it played, but at 8x6 is didn't run all that well. Plus the menus don't show up that great on anything less than 1024x768. On my ti4600@stock it runs pretty well though. I think it would run well on a ti4200.
