I get 27 C idle and 50c on load.

50 sounds a bit high for an intel chip, however we don't really have enough info. What type of processor do you have and how are you cooling it? Also tell us about how you keep your case cool.

Man that is a big swing in temps..50c is kinda high...if you are gonna O'C', try to get your full load temps to under 37c. you might need some thermal compound, or some new thermal compound..this could explain your huge difference in temps.
My system tries to crash at around 38c, although I have my cpu pushed as far as any 700 should go.
Sometimes thermal compound gets old and dries up, flakes and makes your cooling less effective, if not worse.
I recomend reaplying thermal grease at least once every six months or so..but be carefull not to crack your chip...this also gives you the chance to clean the dust from the h.s. and fans, and just blowing out the dust from the h.s. fins can have dramatic results.
Let me give you an example of how important the temps are when overclocking.
My PIII 800E will run fine up to probably 50c @ 960mhz. But when I run it at 1gig, any temps higher then 29c and i cant even load any 3D apps! If I'm gaming and the temps happen to touch 29c or higher it will kick me back to the desktop.
But if I keep the temps consistently under that while under full load it will run 100% stable!
Right now my temps are around 9c @ idle & 20c @ very heavy cpu load. So I'm ok now. But I want it colder to see if I can get some more out of this chip.
