I have a Compaq computer and i want to overclock my CPU :) but when i went to my BIOS to change the FSB the BIOS doesn't allow it :( i cant change the core voltage or the FSB or anything :( i tried using softFSB but i'm not too sure what setting to use... and the motherboard i chose as an intel one and i got my FSB upto 74mhz and it didnt crash my system but my modem (which is a winmodem) stopped working till i rebooted :(

does anyone have any idea how i can somehow fix this or a way round changing my FSB some other way? and before somebody says i'm not buying a new motherboard as i've got no cash :(

any software, links etc GREATLY welcome :)

Overclocking a Compaq is just about a lost cause, sorry. My advice is to keep trying the softFSB, since it sounds like you've had more success than most with that method. If there is no way to change the settings in the BIOS or by using jumpers, there is no other option available. There is another software program like softFSB you might try too. Forgot the name.

if i was you i would go to somewhere like www.overclockingstore.co.uk or www.overclockers.co.uk and look at the motherboards, also get a good cooler, such as the thermo engine or a tansol. if you don't get a new motherboard, you definatly need the cooler

as i said i dont have much money at all... and i'm proberbly gonna get myself a job soon as i'll be 16 in 2 weeks :) so i'm gonna save some of my b/day money and money from my job and get myself a custom built comp for my room and leave this family comp alone...
and after inspecting my m/board for a while i found my PLL and when i checked the info out for it the max FSB is 74.7mhz :( so i can get 670mhz and the loss of my winmodem... lol :(
anyways thanks guys... no further help needed until i get a new system :)
