View Full Version : what gives with my p3 600?
been having a problem getting my p3 600/abit be6 up to 133 fsb. previously i always thought it was the ram that was holding me back, but i threw in some hyundai pc133 ram & i am still stuck @ 124 fsb... today i was messin with it & i got to 133 for about 10 minutes & then it locked up, so i download the new version of MBM & when i get to checking out my temps it says 0. i know the last time i had MBM installed it was running around 90F if i remember correctly, so i know the temp was being picked up before... the only thing i have done since the last time i ran MBM was switch cases.... any idea of what i coulda done to kill the temp monitoring?

did you check to see if the MBM was configured correctly? is the HSF secure? can you get into the bios? you should be able to see the temps from there...
just checked...
CPU core temp = N/A
system temp =98F
something is up there....hmmmmm

are you sure your board/cpu is ok??

WOW that system temp is outrageous. You have this computer running outside? You are getting anywhere with a temp that high in the system.
runs compleatly stable at 124fsb....
are the board & proc ok? i would imagine so.. seeing as the only problem is that i cant get above 124 fsb & now i can not get a temperature reading off my processor...
come to think of it.... when im playin deus ex, the system locks up frequently--but i attributed that to something else...some kinda conflict because that is the only program (game or otherwise) that locks up.

what hsf are you using and have you tried upping the voltage a tad? You really need to reduce that case temp too!
Yes, too hot. Those system temps are more like my CPU load temps.
Since your system temp is "98F", which is about 36.67 degrees Celsius, and my computer, with an open case on a cool morning, runs around 38 C for the system temp and 35 to 38 C for the processor under load (water cooled, no less!), I tend to think your system temperature is fine.
Clearly, cooler is better, but you are not frying the thing.

Well, my system temps at idle is only about 6 degrees above ambient. Even under the worst torturing load, I've never had it over 32 degrees with my current set of cooling mods. Yes, at one time I also had high system temps like you currently do, but I kept running into instability problems when I was overclocking. So, I worked hard at case cooling solutions (I have a total of 9 fans going). Trust me, better cooling will give you better results, been there done that.
Gosh Batboy,
You made me feel like I had been cruel to my poor computer, so I poured another quart of water in the bucket and set a fan next to the case.
Its purring @ system 32 C now, so I feel a lot better :) ... but I expect that when I watch that movie later on my dvd, that fan will have to go off.

Anvil, sorry, didn't mean to make you feel guilty about abusing your computer...LOL. When I have CD burning to do, I back off the overclocking and turn off two of my fans. Sorry to preach, but I'm convinced from personal experience that cooling is the main key to overclocking.
Thanks batboy!
I absolutely agree with you about cooling, ... or I wouldn't have spattered all that solder on the floor midst the copper filing dust. Can't get there without a decent cooling solution.
I went for water after I bought a projector for dvd movies. An 80 inch wide game world ain't bad either. The roar of the fans became an issue. So I decided to "run silent." If I could eliminate every fan I would be delighted, but can't seem to get there without a little abuse ( of the computer, I mean).

i threw a room fan in there blowing across the case....right now the system temp is at 78F (kind of a chilly morning tho...)
its using an alpha P3125
and like i said... the thing runs stable @744
holy crap!!!!!!!!!!
i just reinstalled MBM & was messin with it & now its working.......here is the problem tho
for the p3 diode i get 270F!!!!!! holy cow!
winbond probe=73F and now im not getting any reading from my -5V
Weird stuff. I don't know anything about MBM (I'm assuming it's similar to my Hardware Doctor monitoring program), but if it's a zipped download file I might know what's going on. Winzip don't like the system being mega overclocked when unzipping files. It will sometimes cause file corruption. It's happened to me before. Now I back off the FSB a little before unzipping my downloads.
