I just bought an slk-700 and i took out my cpu and took off the old rubber feet, and then i scraped off the adhesive with a razor blade and some rubbing alcohol. And i installed my hs and booted it up, and it posts, but then it gives me a CPU Problem beep code. I looked closer at my cpu and i can see a TEENY TINY bit of copper thru the substrate. Would this cause this?
I can boot up in safe mode, but i tried running prime95 and i got the beep code. Sigh. My parents prolly arent going to be happy if i have to buy a new one. They are ones who are like, if its not broken dont fix it, so they wont like that i got my new hs even tho i didnt need it and then fried my cpu.

Sure could be it :( I think I might've killed my CPU sort of the same way, but I was trying to cut 2 L6 bridges and might've just cut too deep.
why did you remove the original rubber feet anyway?

Well, you only learn by 'doing' some things, building computers being one of them. Everyone has made mistakes at some point in their lives. If you take a step back and look at it, a couple of hundred dollars in the grand scheme of things is not the end of the world. With that being said, I hate to lose money and I don't know anyone who does.

Sounds like it is fried  You may have to live without a 'good' processor for a while, but all of us do now and again

Yep, take me as an example.... Had the Tbred running 2.1GHz and now I'm only at 1460... :(

Yes I too am curious why you removed the rubber pads.
Was it on suggestion from someone else? An Intel
user perhaps? I have seen several posts from Intel users
who install an AMD chip for their friends only to discover how
fragile that exposed core is. No heatspreader to protect it.

Sorry to hear your chip might be fried Agent_Mull. :(x2
