what sub $45 amd cpu would be the best for a dual system? At first i was goiing to get duron 1.6, but you guys said it would be locked, then i was going to go 1200mp, but it seems too slow, now i am stuck and don't know what to get. I have a VERY tight budget and can't spend over 45 on each chip right now, i plan to upgrade next christmas but i need somthing to last me untill then and something that will show improvement ove rmy current single pally 2000+ system...someone suggest anything, i am open to any and all procs as long as they fit my budget and you guys think that it will be a worthwhile improvement over the current rig i run

For $90 total, I can't suggest any pair of CPU's which would yield substantial improvement over your pally 2000.
What you should probably do, if you can't afford to spend more, is just buy one more XP2000 and run it with your other XP2000. They don't have to be matched steppings. You can run Pally's and T-breds together.
If you had the money, my best suggestion is a pair of mobile Athlon XP's, but I think these are above your current budget.

new proc choice to add...for 20 bucks over my budget i can get two 1700+ dlt3c's 0324 and 0310..do you think i should grab those? guarenteed unlocked...
I think you should just get another 2000, do the L5 mod and run with it. Should server you well for quite some time.

If they end up being crummy overclockers (like T-bred A's), then they may be worse than dual XP2000's.
Cool ya have an XP2000 already..I would buy 1 more and mod the L-5 ...

Return it? A used processor? No.
You could always sell it (and your old one), and buy newer, faster CPU's, when you save up a bit.

That is a very good price!
I would jump on it.
(You could probably sell it used, for more than that!)

I don't know where they are coming from.
Consider this. Buy two CPU's that will run slower than your current CPU, or just buy one more of your current CPU's, for less money and more performance.

Almost every dual AMD board costs about the same. I would suggest either the MSI K7D Master (first choice), the Asus A7M266-D (second choice), or the Iwill MPX2 (third choice.)

i like this one:
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduct.asp?submit=manufactory&catalog=302&manufactory=1314&DEPA=0&sortby=14&order=1
it comes with on board RAID, ethernet and USB...
frees up more PCI slots and saves money...
also, the board controls the cpu voltage individually it appears
