whats up guys? i made the pvc pipe reservoir and its working wonderful! but air is getting into my loop and i have to periodicaly wiggle the heatercore it to get the air out. Now does this hurt the flow? should i put some silicone rtv on the bottom of the opening cap to prevent air from coming in?

how is the res mounted? I have mine mounted vertacly in top out bottom..I have so much flow that if i let the water level stay too low it forced air bubbles into the intake...can't mount horizontally or it will leak out my thread cap...and I need to remove and add water often *read always fiddling with it) one solution I have ponderd on from my reef aquaria days is to add a fine mesh screen to weaking the force of flow inside the res....yet to implement LOL!

You have a picture? That would help a lot in troubleshooting. I have a PVC res as well (a T with the angled out portion the fill area). You could try the RTV. Air in the flow shouldn't hurt too much unless it's excessive.

i dont have a pic, its still in the leak test phase. but its mounted just like in the tutorial from VH. I say about every hour i hear a trickle of air traveling through my loop. I am going to try that RTV on the bottom of the end cap I hope that helps a little.

On the inlet barb on the inside of the res place a piece of sponge to cover it but big enough so it won't move. Whats happening is the power is causing a vortex(i think thats what it's called) and it making bubbles. Had the same thing happen to mine til Fettig told me to place the blue sponge from my Eheim over the inlet.

i made a pvc resivour for my external box, and i have zero leaks, when you thread the stuff on, use pipe dope, and then crank on them real good with your hands, DO NOt use a wrench, as you could break the fitting.

you might want to look into putting a tee fitting in your res, so that you can fill more easily, and if you get it full enough, then you will never have to worry about air getting in, at least i don't and i have a mag 3

IF you use a res you don't need to add a t-line as it won't help fill it. All you have to do to fill the res is unscrew the top add water then put the top back on.

ooo...i just thought it woule help keep the air out. but i just took everything out because there was way to much air going through my loop. I made a little "o-ring" with some silicone RTV. thanks klownin...i also put the sponge on my top and it stopped leaking, too cool man
