Ok, so I started overclocking my barton mobile 2400+ which had its multipliers unlocked in factory..
My mobo is soyo kt 400 dragon ultra and i use two 256 mb ddr at pc2700 each..

You guys know how when you overclock too much, your computer doesn't boot so you have to clear your bios settings and stuff..

That happens to me when i overclock my cpu to 2.1+ ghz!!
Ok i understand that barton mobile 2400+ should be able to reach 2.4ghz somewhat easily..
BUt for me, i use FSB at 166mhz and multiplier at 12.5, which gives me 2075 mhz..if i try to raise fsb over 170 or multiplier at 13 or higher, my computer woudlnt boot.. I wonder why.. I tried using 200+ fsb and lower than 12 multipliers.. but either way my computer wouldn't boot

What can be the limiting factors?
My pc2700 rams? my sy kt-4oo mobo?
If any of you know, please do tell me

try upping the voltage either one the vdimm or vcore or both

Up your vcore but your PC2700 is only rated to 166FSB so maybe holding you back - especially if its generic. Best way to check if your Ram is a limiting factor is to drop your multi to something like 10 then up your FSB until its unstable. BTW welcome to the forums!

oh yea forgot that...Welcome bro!

haha thank you guys~!
By the way, I am at voltage 1.65 now and my cpu thermo seems to be 48 degrees.. do you think it would be risky to raise vcore without gettin additional cooler?

48C at load is fine you have room to up it some more - what matters is whether the cpu is stable

I think... my computer is degenerating..
I tried to make those changes with voltages.. but they wouldn't work, so i cleared my bios a few times and set everything to what i had before, 166 FSBand 12.5 mulltiplier at original voltage.. but now it even locks up on that!
OMG.. now im running my comp on the Default bios which gives me 100 FSB at 6 multiplier=600 mhz T.T
my comp actually got worse after i changed over to 2400+ barton mobile from 2000+ (i forget brand name, but i remember it was a locked cpu that i couldnt open)..
Bleh..

If you upped the voltage and found instability it is probably due to your psu not your cpu. What are your 3.3, 5 and 12 voltage rails reading? Flip side - you have reset everything so what is your vcore now.

Hmm, I don't know what you mean by 3.3, 5 and 12 voltage rails reading.. sorry im a newb..
Hehe, however i kept changing and resetting bios, now my windows booted.. is it by luck? i have no idea.. it's past 1 and now i gotta go do hw to get ready for schoo, hope it will boot tomm when i try after school
Thanks for helping me OC Detective
Right now i am back to my 2075 mhz, 166x12.5 vcore 1.7
I guess I will have to settle with this much then, it IS better than what i used to have:)
This forum is awsome, keep it going yos

woot!
my friend tole me to cut the 5th bridge and now i can increase multiplier!!
I am currently running at 168 X 14 at 1.85 vcore and 2.8 at ddr

My temp is over 55+ though, my friend said it is bad if it goes over 50, but would this be cool as long as my prime 95 test goes on fine?
even if it reaches 60?
