like it sez - I know that flashing a 9800np to a pro can give a few more mem mhz thanks to looser timings - anything like that?

I don't know if it's possible to flash a 9800pro to an xt.

I think I saw somewhere that the board layout is different.

yeah the board layout is different - but I have for sure run across a person or two who has done it. I think I may even have seen people flash 9700's to 9800's from time to time.

How to: Softmod your 9800NP/Pro into XT (http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=270479)

It wasfake, 9700's cant do the speed of a 9800xt, stable anyway... and it wouldhaveto bestable in order to fla**** :) otherwise it would f'up :P

I did not mean people flashing 9700-9800xt, I meant flash 9700 to 9800 and 9800 to xt

i know, but still the clock difference is too much, unless they are lucky :) like it says on that page xtspeeds...412/365....and 9700sare 310 and something ? icant remember.

<---9800pro flashed to xt

results include higher fps on all games i play, 5% jump in 3dmark scores, able to overclock about 5% more as well

only thing i see that's not right is while running 3dmark03 you see a grid in 3 or 4 tests, this is covered at the 3dmaxx.com forums extinsively, 3dmark03 is the only program that this happens w/ and futuremark is supposed to be working on this issue, they say it dosn't work for or against you, just a detection problem w/in 3dmark03 itself

i would recommend the flash as long as you have good cooling

i see....guess I will be doing it then. I will have a pelt on there so i am not worried bout that - only problem is I do not run/have a floppy - I do have an extra PCI vid card but I guess I need to get my hands on a floppy as well.

you dont really need a floppy, hmmm... you just gotta boot into dos some how, make a partition and set it as the active partition and put dos on it :P

or justpickup a used floppy drive, they are cheap :)

errr....i think i will use a floppy! my uber hardware kung fu skills are not matched by uber dos skills.

go to http://www.3dmaxx.com , you'll find everything you'll need there(go to the forums if you have a 128mb pro for the bios and any questions you have)

I just flashed my PC 9800 (128MB) Pro to the XT...using stock cooling with no ramsinks...havent noticed really any increase in temps a few C's, nothing real major, or stability and I did a 10x loop on 3d mark 2001 and was playing CoD for the last hour or so...

After doing a clean or as close to it...on the omega drivers, I set the system back to specs for my "default" settings that I used for the first 9800 Pro benchmarks...

(Default driver settings)

9800 Pro non/modded 16608 (http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=7574467)

9800 XT modded 17051 (http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=7577108)

so you got that improvement with the same clocks?

no no, when you mod the pro/no to the xt it raisesthe clock speedsto Xt'sdefault speeds.

yeah ok so it changes the original clock speed i got that much.....but does it enable a better overclock ??
as you can see from my sig i got a good oc already with the pro bios but will definately check out an xt bios if it allows higher mhz with stability
btw that 3dmaxx link won't work for me:(

nah I was asking glock if he got the 500 more 3dmark s with the only variable being the bios - IE he ran 3dmark with the same gpu/mem clocks. Obviously when you run standard 9800p clocks against standard xt clocks, the xt will win, regardless of bioses

As you can see there was a slight increase...
