Well basically, i kept my processor and memory while getting everything else new. I kept my 1.8 celery and my 512 mb 2700 ram while getting a new hard drive and fx 5900xt and a shuttle pv49n. This was my first rig i have ever built. It seems to be working fine :)
Now that it's built, what should i do? Stability isnt a prob since i have it on stock(willy celery). Should i bench it and start folding?

Ah crap, an error:
Nvidia system sentinel has reports that my gf 5900 is not getting enough power. It said something about an additional power cable. Can anyone tell me what this looks like?

only 5700 3dmarks... whats wrong? The benchmarks say that people get 8k marks with a ti4200... is it my cheapo spectek 2700 ram?

are you talking about 5700 3dmarks03 or 01?
edit, power error is because you are not giving your card enough power. These cards require an external power connector direct to a decent power supply.

Yeah, i fixed that by connecting card to psu. Now whats the problem? Its only 5742 3dmark01 marks :-/

ug....yeah somethings not right, do you have like all the eye candy at max? with that card you should get 14-18k i would think. You have a cele too, could be holding you back some, but i don't think that much.

Well, i have the performance at high performance in the nvidia thingy. Clock speed seems fine-390/700
I have crappy spectek ram and a celly. Could that be the cause?
EDIT:THOSE B*(#$U(#() GIPPED ME!!! They said it was 2700 ram and the package said 2700 ram, but aida32 says it pc2100 ram. It only runs at pc2100 speeds, too. Grrrr...
Never buy from compusa....

Ok i've got it to 460/820 without artifacts. Any higher and i get artifacts :-/
This has got me 7096 3dmarks(2001se). Is this ok or am i doing something wrong? Is my crappy ram and celeron setting me back that much?

It's probably your processor that is holding you back in 3DMark01. Run 3DMark03 for a more accurate representation of your video card performance. There's also Aquamark and PCMark if you want to try those. I think PCMagazine has their own real-world benchmark you can use, also.
Your RAM is fine if you're just running it at stock. Try to take the timings down on it in the BIOS.

Ok, so my system is doing fine, right? All thats left is to tighen ram timings. How far should i go? Its crappy spectek ram :-/

I changed my ram to 2.5-2-2-6. I dont want to go any tigher cause it might become unstable.
EDIT: It seems that my proc is holding me back. I have the 2nd highest scoring celeron system on 3dmark 2003! Go me ;)

Keep making the timings tigher until it won't go into Windows. Then reset the CMOS and loosten them again to the previous setting, then try running memtest.

Got it at 2-2-2-6 stable. Cant go any lower cause then it wont post. Tried 1.5-2-2-6 and it just wouldnt even post lol so i put it to 2-2-2-6.
happy b-day man :)
your cpu IS holding you back a bit. o/c'ing your card won't really help all that much, the cpu is the bottleneck here. and i think the ram you got simply runs at 2100 course of fps settings for your celly, so, it could actually be 2700.
have you tryed to o/c'd your setup? i hear cellies are killer at climbing up the fsb :)

Thanks :)
Well, batboy said that the williamette cellys cant oc >_<
If it was a northie, it would be a different story.
BUT i am going to rma my 5900xt. I meant to get a normal 5900, but stupidly got a 5900xt because i thought it was the same thing >_<
I should have known better :(

Unwritten rule of OC forums #12: When posting about a new system, you MUST POST BENCHMARKS.
But you probably want to brag anyway...
anything can oc, even if a lil' bit. try it, you'll see :)

Well yeah i can probably get it to 2 gigs stable... but i dont wanna risk it.

There really isn't any risk involved if you properly handle the situation. Watch your temperatures, run a few benchmarks. If it goes over 50C, then cut it down to stock.
I think your mobo has an autoshutdown feature, anyway.

i agree with OKJEFF4
it will take quite a bit to melt your cpu; take baby steps and you be fine :)

Thats the spirit! lol Make sure you have some kind of temp monitoring program like motherboard monitor 5 livewiredev.mbm.com , if ya already have it then good luck

Got it to 2 gigs exactly. Any higher and it craps out and scrambles pci/agp lock.
