o yah, defintiely, all u gotta do is slide a razor blade underneath the shim and cut away or put a thin flat-head screw-driver underneath and just pop it off, but do this with caution and take precautionary measure to protect ur card

okay cool, I want to do it to both my cards so bad lol. What kind of precautionary measures could be taken in preparation?
Would I just cut all the way around it with a razor?

better way to do it....
ok, to make the glue weaker and easier to come off, stick the card in an anti-static bag, seal it with tape or something so moisture doesnt get in (if u didnt know, h2o + electronics = bad ) leave it in the freezer for about 30 minutes, and take it out, remember to ground yourself before handling electronics (do not mess with this on carpets)
ok now, take out ur razor blade and just yeah....slide it under the shim in each corner and lift up, it should come off pretty easily, do NOT scratch the video card pcb or the rest of the gpu
ok...but a lot of ppl have ruined their cards by removing the shim, u may not wanna do this if u really know all the risks
are you sure 440mx's and 5200's have shims?
e.g. the black plastic part around the shiney silvery circle is NOT the shim, but chip packaging

The MX440 has no shim. I havnt seen a 5200's core, but it may not either.

if the mx440 has no shim- i doubt the fx5200 does because they both look the same under the heatsink.
