FTP Server?

I am looking to set up an FTP server for my online gamming group
but I have been able to figure out how to make it password protected.

Edit Forgot to add I am running WinXP pro.

i dont belive windows has this feature built in, instead use a program like serv-u

I've never run the native one on XP cause I run full blown servers, but it shouldn't be much different than server 2k. Basically remove anonamous access then under the folder you want to use for ftp go into security options and add the users allowed access. Note you must have local accounts for each person.

Well thanks but that did not do the job. People can still access with out a user and pass.

It might help if you tell us what FTP program you are using.

The winXP FTP.

first go into ftp and disable anonymous connections

then you need to make a new group of members with permission to access the folder

I did that because that is what Stu Pidasso told me to do. But I have done some reading on the MS site and it sounds like with all the holes the IIS has in it I will not be useing it.

Yup, it's a real pain in the ass to setup. I've been running 2k3 server for a while now and all I have to say is, thank MS for getting it right this time!
