I recently ran a both 3dmark01, and 3dmark03 on my computer and i was dissatisfied with the results considering the specs of my computer.

Here is my current setup:

AMD athlon XP+ 2600 running @ 2.09 GHz
Asus A7N8X deluxe mobo
128 MB Sappire Radeon 9600 pro atlantis VGA card
512 MB kingston DDR value PC2700
Maxtor 7200 80GB HD ATA 133
Sony DVD/CD-RW combo drive
Sony CD-ROM drive

When i finish both tests and review my results, it says that i have a FSB of 166. Could this be what is causing my problem with poor results? I am fairly sure that i have my settings in the BIOS correct. Is it just that my graphics card is crapping out? Should i overclock the card??

Well we'd need your 3dmark scores before we can tell if they're lower than they should be or not. I think I got around 3000-3050 in 3dmark03 with a 9600 Pro and 2500+ OC'd to 3200+

Here were my results:

3dmark2001 - 10567

3dmark2003 - 3056

From what i have seen from other reviews, this card should be getting another 300 points on the 3dmark2003. What have i done wrong?

FSB of 166 is correct mate, unless you're overclocking the beast...

Thats not a bad score for the setup, but yes it could be better, but i would'nt expect much higher.... not without some OC'ing anyway.

ok if i was going to overclock my mobo or the graphics card, how do i know when to stop? I understand how to do it but i dont know when ive gone TOO far. i dont want to damage my mobo or my graphics card. If someone could give me a little advice on how to do that i would appreciate that.

When it stops running. :) No really you get programs like Prime95 that test your system and run it for about 24 hours. If it fails or crashes anytime during you add voltage or turn some settings down.

The main thing to do is read alot of the forums, ask alot of questions, and feel good about doing it before you start. Make sure to use the search and check the stickies before posting a question because 95% of the time you will find the answer there faster.

i'd say that those scores are pretty low for that system.
mine is almost the same except for 2800+ and 2x 512 mushkin lvl2. even our harddisk is the same.

at stock speed (both cpu and vga) i get ~15.000 3dmark2001 (http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=7299966 ) and ~5000 3dmark03.

i'm not sure whats the problem with yours, are you sure you have the motherboard's driver installed?? i'd suggest clean install of windows and see if that helps :p

3dmark2001 - 10567

3dmark2003 - 3056

I'd say they're low aswell when my oc'd BBA8500LE128 (290/290) will do.

3dmark2001 ~ 11500
3dmark2003 ~ 3200

Using Barton 2500+ and OCz PC3500EL 512 kit @ 211x10.5 2-4-4-11.

I would say your 03 is close, but still a bit off, but your 3dmark01 score is off. With my old 8500 I could pull 11.5K. Make sure to set IQ to preformace, turn off any aa or af.

Yes, but your running a 9800pro, and hes running a 9600pro. Though, your scores look a bit low too.

I was at my buddy's house yesterday as he ran both of those 3dmark tests and his scores were almost identical to yours (his system is almost identical to yours too- 2600+ on A7N8X-x). He had the 3D settings set to "balanced", I told him that if he changed them to performance, the scores would go up a bit. I guess we're just not used to seeing low scores on this board because its rare to see a system that's NOT overclocked :D

But, your system is pretty much where it should be, since my buddy was running the 4.2's and he did a fresh install when he got the CPU/board/videocard not that long ago!
