Last week i was having problems connecting to the sbc dsl, so i called up and they capped my connection to allow it to connect, and it connected, but now it only runs at 700kbs. So i called back up and said that i think my connection was still capped and the guy said that it was just b/c im too far away from the server. BS. last week i was running @ ~1.5mbs.
Could some phonelines that dont have a dsl filter on them be causing this reduced speed? b/c this is getting frustrating, the lowest ping cs server i can get is 75ms.

sbc doesn't handle the line caps they contract that out to other companies. calling sbc to get it resolved will get you nowhere. you need to contact ASI, or goto dslreports and find one of ASI/SBC's tech on their forums and give them a PM. SBC phone tech support is a joke and only handles problems that non-computer literate people have.

i will see if i can find the e-mail address of the place you have to get in touch with to get your line uncapped. i can't find it i think i deleted the e-mail.

sbc is notorious for capping lines that don't need to be. when i had them as my isp they capped my line at 384!!!! my downloads were ridiculously slow. i ended up changing to speakeasy cuz they offered me a free PS2 for signing up. i ordered a slower speed dsl but payed the same as i did with sbc. but i was getting what i payed for with speakeasy so i was happy. just within the last week speakeasy upgraded my line and guess what, 1500/256 right where i should have been with sbc had they put in the effort to keep me as a customer. so sbc had no legitimate reason no cap my line they just wanted to save bandwidth that they could sell to someone else.

not having a filter on a phone line would take down your entire dsl line not slow it down. if you had an unfiltered line you would have no internet not slow internet.

your ping should not be effected by the line cap. they capped the amount of data that can transfer through your line not how fast the line actually sends. if you have ping problems you have other issues you need to work out.
