Alright, so I was looking at some "sites" today, and I got this window that comes up and says: ADELPHIA INVESTIGATION, then it lists like my IP and the time, and all this other stuff. Scared me because Adelphia is my ISP.

then, later it came upa gain. The first time i just thought it was some place trying to get you to download thier spyware remover, because after I closed that page another one popped up and had a link to the spyware remover thing.

what do you think it was?

Lame popup.

I wouldn't worry one bit. If you do worry, maybe try using Mozilla Firefox. An excellent browser, with built-in popup stopper, tabbed browsing, and many other great features.

Any page can be set up to spit back the connecting user's IP and User-Agent string.

Sensibly, no ISP would set up popups on pages they don't own, nor would they use such popups for that subject. Most likely, you already got some sort of spyware installed.

Don't be wooried, somebody has a bot/script that looks at your info and then reposts it so that only you see it. It's just some pearl language crap that people feel they need to run,,,,,,,,,,,,,stupid IMO, I experienced it myself, it's just plain crap, IYAM, and freeks people out. I wish I had the url to the site that talks about it.

I don't get afraid of spam, ads or popups. Like all things on the internet, take it like a grain of sand. If there is something that seriously spooks you, do some searching, and find a verified source that has the same story. Don't take anything at face value on the internet.

It is very easy to get at a lot of information about you, based on what you send when retrieving a webpage (IP Address, Browser, referrer, etc.. even as much as what resolution and number of colors you are running on your monitor). In this case, they took your IP Address, did a simple lookup to find who owned the IP address (your ISP), and formulated a message specifically for you.

You can cut down on these types of things by using a browser that has popup blocking support, or using things like googlebar, or other (non-spyware) applications that block popups. An ad-blocker is also a nifty thing to have around.
