hi,
Had a celeron 633 @ 950 with 2.1v going through it for 4months, never got over 31c with full load (autumn - winter).

I turned my machine on the other day and all my case fans went extremly loud, like they were getting more power or something, then the computer turned off!... very strange i thought.

Now the CPU doesn't work, i tested my other hardware with my bros P3 cpu and worked like a charm, but the CPU is now dead, in both systems!
There is no physical damage done to the cpu and no smell was emitted, i have tried it in 3 systems and no go... tried different slot converters no go.
I think it may be due to the fact that it had 2.1v going in it, and when this 'power surge' took place it jumped it far to high and boom =(
there was no noise either...

any have any ideas/ suggestions as i don't think intel will except this baby under warranty =(?

do you think it was a faulty power supply unit that caused this? I gues that would only apply if the fans where connected to the PSU if the fans were connected to the MB then do you think it was the MB that caused this? i think i would be a little leary about running with the same PSU again or MB depending on what caused them to run faster.

hey, i had a similar thing happen to me with my
PIII 800 @ 900, @ 1.8v....the idle temps on this cpu was 25c, about 4c above the ambient temp. No idea as to what caused this, but on Sunday when i wanted to boot up, same thing as you, system was dead.I thought the psu was the prob, so ichanged it with a new 250w that i had in my cupboard, no go....tried the cpu in another machine, same story, cpu dead !!
So who knows what the heck caused this, i don't know...
