On whether or not to do anything with the northbridge cooler on my ASUS A7N8X Deluxe. The thing gets damn hot, But I have been reading reviews on how cooling it better yields nothing in terms of mhz. Will it make it more stable? Should I watercool the thing? Or just buy an aftermarket heatsink?

Thx

It depends how much you want to push that fsb. Watercooling will let you eek out the very last bit although a good aftermarket heatsink will do just fine also. It all depends on how much you want to spend for that last bit of performance. With overclocking there's no gaurantee of course. Your mileage may vary ;). There's also a whole "watercooling NB" thread/poll you should check out if you haven't already.

touch the south bridge sometime. It's amazing to me they did'nt put a sink on that one too. I bet 98% of all NF2 stability problems, what little they are, are caused by south bridge heat.

To answer your question it depends on air flow though the case. If you have good flow over the MB you should just get an upgraded passive sink (for both) like the Zalman blue one.

I'm pushing 220FSB on water but I also was pushing that on air as well. Didn't make a difference for me. If anything, it does keep the NB cooler which helps out overall system temps in the end. Plus it looks cool. Depends if you really want to spend the money or not. IF your going to spend money on a high end air cooler for it, I'd spend the dough on a waterblock at the same price.

Watercooling it probably will not make that much difference at all.. but it certainly does look good.

my next project is to not only liquid cool the NB but the Sb as well...looks as if I was bitten by the bug that got bladerunner...no fans @ all sounds like a killer Idea...and if this land deal goes thru I am going with a "bomb" myself oh the novelty of no fans!
