I was trying to remove the shim from my 9800pro(Now I know that I don't need to remove it anymore), I first used a blade to cut in the top-right corner of the shim( it lacks a bigger corner), after a few try, I saw a piece bright tiny metal on the base. I'm afraid I nicked the substrate.
Does anyknow know the substrate that is coverd by the shim and outside of the shim(only four corners) has no electrocircuit under ?

I will post some pictures later.

hmmm well the only way to know for sure is test it i suppose ...its a little difficult to know what you have damaged (if anything) without pictures

when i popped my shim off i used dental floss to start it off then flipped off the shim with very light pressure from a razor blade (in other words i was extremely careful) and it needed to be done on my card because the waterblock i have was not in contact with the core....

but as the saying goes if it aint broke dont try and fix it;)

If it's working correctly right now then don't worry about it.

To test the card now is impossible. I have to finish all the work; it may takes one week or two months.

I upload a photo, You see that litter corner, (In this photo, it's the left-bottom corner of the shim), there's a copper triangle. My triangle now is nicked and silvery white. Do you have any idea what they use that triangle for ?
btw, what kind of glue they use for stick the shim and the substrate together ?

Looks like that's the marking to align the R350...similar to the the ones on cpu's

I don't see how scraping that little triangle could hurt anything. Just don't gouge the substrate material or anything, and you should be fine.

Back in the original XP days, we had to scrape the bridges before unlocking would take, and that never hurt anything. So long as you didn't like, gouge it right down far or anything, you should be fine.

Just slap your heatsink back on there and away you go :)

Alright, thanks people. Especially the that AMD pictuer. I am just about drilling another hole. Probably next week I can finish it.
