i wanna ask the intel guys this, cuz i think the amd people are too stubborn and shortsighted and they think too highly of the athlon :P

i saw the C3 the other day and it was only $60 for a 800mhz! are these processors any good? like what (if anything) is special about them for like overclocking or whatever?

I have older celerons (see my specs below), and they overclock rather well as you can see. But these celerons are pretty much maxxed out of the box and would require too much cooling to push much higher... the earlier 566, 600, 633, and 667 coppermine core celerons were much better overclockers because the core had room to grow (with the FSB only 66 they could go way past 100mhz and attain high overclock speeds).

um... thats not what i was asking, lol

C3 = correct/current name for Cyrix 3

when Via bought cyrix they dropped the cyrix name and named the processor C3 instead of Cyrix3

well i ask again about the stuff that was in my previous post up there.

Narf!! I mean Whopps! I thought you may have mistakenly called the celeron 800 a celeron 3 (though I believe they don't exist), anyway... Cyrix is a blackhole or something, about all I know,.. but I thought that was a funny example of the evils inherent in our abbreviation of nearly everything PC... I mean Politically Correct personal computer Perfectly Complicated!

Well, i just got one, a 600, and got it to 800 (6X133) @ 1.75v, 1.5v is default. Burning in @ 2.1v 800 (6X133) trying to hitt 900. Right now i am able to hitt 860 @ 2.1v. Generic Slotkey, and heatsink. I changed the fan to a 80mm Delta @ 18V.

In the past the Cyrex was a poor performer but now that Via bought them out and did some revamping?

Carmine_Paterno how does it compare to your Celeron?

BTW not all of us AMD people are stubborn. I have been using Intel chips since the 8088 and still do use Intel. I started with AMD because the P3 line hit a brick wall a while back and the P4 is to high $ so it fills in the gap. Things very well may change in the future when Intel has there next die shrink and can fix the P4 but for now AMD is tops gotta admit having fsb + multipier control is sweet.

i heard that the C3's are multiplier unlocked, is that true?

how does the C3 compare to other processors?

Maybe someone out there with a C3 could post some bench results ?
For interest sakes...

I just picked up a C3 600 too. Unfortunately, my mobo doesn't want to work with it. Any suggestions on a good choice for a new mobo? Would consider a dual-processor mobo if price was good.
