Yikes, no good. You could probably send it back to Intel if it's a retail chip... they'll care less about replacing it than potentially losing a customer... I heard they really can't tell if it was overclocked/why it died...
That is a shame that the chip fried like that :( You wouldn't think that it would go so easy.
Was it a retail box?
Send it back you have nothing to loose and everything to gain.
why did you lose 2thousand bucks the chips are only 400 was it a Xeon?

So we may learn from your mistake how much voltage were you using when it died?
Sorry to hear about your loss.

yeah, get an athlon, or the atlhon 4 (gag at the name) when it comes out. not only will they not hurt your wallet so much if they burn out, they are just better ;-) sorry though to hear about the loss

I don't think they can tell if the cpu was overclocked, because i had mine replaced without any problems, had an 800E running at 900 and occasionally at 1024... voltage max that i had it at was 1.9v...i think the only way they may get suspicious of an overclocked cpu is if it was fried because of too much voltage which sometimes can show sighs of overheating..
