At officemax, starts Sunday.

Which 40 gig drive is on rebates?
7200 or 5400?
2 meg cache or 8?
Thanks

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure this deal applies to the WD 7200RMP 40GB SE (8MB Cache) version. It's retail boxed, so it only has a 1 year warrany compared to the OEM 3 year that you find online.
I think the 80GB is going back on sale too, but I haven't seen much lately about it.

Pretty good, im going to save that 20 bucks for a raptor tho :-)
After looking at the ad, I'm pretty sure (99%) that it's a 2 mb cache drive that runs at 7200 RPM. The picture in the ad did not show "8 mb cache" on the label, as all the SE drives do. Of course this could be one of those YMMV cases where some stores get one version while others get another.

Is this still a good buy even with the 2mb cache? I wouldn't mind getting it for my inlaws, they have a small 10gb hd

Yeah, it'd be good for the average person looking for hardware, but not too many of us are really going to have use for a 40gig harddrive. Definitely a good find, too bad that the don't have a 200gig for $100. :)

Not bad to pick 2 of em up for raid, if you dont need to much space that is.

I bought one this morning, it was the 2mb version 7200 rpm. They were in short supply at the locations near me. Nice upgrade for my wifes computer for 20 bucks.

"Short supply" That seems to be a theme with OfficeMax.

Don't worry about it as long as you fill it out correctly and include the correct items. It may take awhile (a couple of months at the MOST) but it WILL come.
Keep a copy of everything so you have proof.

i havent tested this yet, but a guy i know who used to work at circuit city told me that if they dont have a rebate that a competetor does, that they will price match it for $20 out the door. i dont know if CC has that item in stock though, ill go check that out.
