I had this laptop for like 8 monthes or so now and I have been pretty happy with it. I had a few small issues, but I got them all worked out. I had a hard drive issue over the summer, but I got it replaced and all was better. I leave my laptop on 24/7 because I fold. For all this time I have had it on 24/7, its been fine. Recently, my laptop has been shutting off randomly. Never when I have been using it, but many times when I go out and come back its turned off. I make sure to keep it on a flat surface, so it does not overheat. I emailed compaq and they told me to do this...
"The problem could be because of corrupted power management component in
Windows XP.
To resolve the problem, I recommend reinstalling power management
component in Windows XP.
To reinstall Power Management in Windows XP, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, select Control Panel, and then choose Performance and
Maintenance.
2. Click the System icon to open the System properties window.
3. Select the Hardware tab and click Device Manager.
4. Click the plus (+) sign next to System Devices.
5. Right-click the ACPI Fixed Features button and select Uninstall.
6. Restart the system.
On restarting the system, Windows will automatically detect and install
Power Management on the computer."
I tried that, it seemed to work for two days, but then it just came back and its even worse now. Could it be my laptop is overheating? I am stuck. Thanks for the help.
