cubase
pro-tools LE (budget version)
Nuindo
CakeWalk (any flavor)
Acid

Some of these are great programs and they frequently come with music gear you'd probably buy anyway.

digital 4-track
direct-box amp simulator
various keyboards
some digital amps

Nuindo is a pricey one that is awesome.

the best program out there (which is also kinda hard) and can do anything that you want it to with just enough tweaking is Jeskola Buzz that's absolutely free (kinda set up like Linux) found at www.buzzmachines.com

This buzz program intrigues me. I'm currently downloading it and hoping it's everything the page says it is.

yeah buzz does have it's downsides. There's not a whole lot of documentation on how to use it but it really is the most powerful thing out there if your willing to take the time to figure it all out.

You can create any type of sound with it too if you get the right tweak for it.

But yeah it can seem almost impossible at first so give it a chance :)
