I just got a Abit IC7 MAX3 and it does not play dolby digital like my Asus did, On my home theater reciever I have both optical and coax digital inputs. If I get this card (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=29-102-171&catalog=57&manufactory=BROWSE&depa=1) can I get an adapter and use the coax cable to run to my reciever since it has a digital out mini plug? If I do this will it be true Dolby Digital, or just pro logic that it splits up from a regular stereo signal?
It should work but I would reccommend the turtle beach cards instead, they are cheaper and, in my opinion, better. I have a TB santa cruz card and use the "versajack" for digital coaxial output to home theater and it is true DD 5.1 sound. I hear bad things about the soundblaster and the one that I had only seemed to output DD in 2 channel mode, not 5.1, but it may have been an error on my part (home made cable). As I understand it many of the soundblaster cards output creative's own proprietary digital signal that only the creative speakers can decode into 4+ channels.
