snail-like xp pro boots

My friend just moved his computer into a new case, and now the bars at the XP splash screen runs across 8 times or so. Before moving my computer, it was only 1 time as i recall. Any help would be really grateful since he's pretty ****ed off right now. It slows down the boot time by at least a extra 23 seconds. His main parts in the system are:

Asus a7n8x-x
amd athlon xp 2700
512mb ddr400 crucial
ati radeon 9800xt


EDIT: he did not install anything yet other than just installing ms word but i doubt that would have affected it.

If he hasnt installed the NF2 drivers this could be the issue since the NF2 drivers contain the IDE controller...just make sure when it ask to install the SW IDE Drivers...DONT...

Also, dont install the NF2 drivers from the CD...go download them from nividia...get the latest ones...

One other thing...make sure they dont have a large size data disk in one of there CD-Roms...if Have a large size CD in one of my cd-roms...such as data or dvd movie...it takes forever to boot up...just hit eject if there is a CD in the disk and it should boot right away...

Ok thanks i just told him to reinstall the drivers for the board without the SW drivers and everything's fine again for him. :)
