Hi there.

I see ppl getting less than 6000 in 3dMark03 but they get scores at 19/20k in 3dMark2001.

In 3dMark03 i get 6119 (http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k3=2115088)

and in 3dMark2001 i get 17355 (http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=7590982)

Should i not be getting a Higher score in 3dMark2001 ??

I just find it wierd.

System in Sig.

Thx

are your d3d settings set to performance?how fresh was your xp install when you did the 17k run?ram timings?I also got better scores useing 2k over xp,cat 3.7's,and alot of tweaks to the os also dx8.1 over dx9.alot of different things affect 2k1

It primarily a difference in how each benchmark calculates scores.

Often you will see exactly what you are asking about. A very good '03 score and bad '01 score. '03 focuses heavily on the video card, whereas '01 is more of a system wide test. Good '01 scores require a system that has a combination of good memory bandwidth, high FSB speeds, and a good graphics card.

'03 on the other hand can show a good score say with an XT on an old 1ghz Duron. The only test that is affected by system speed in 3DMark '03 is Wings of Fury.

^ true dat. :D

Also, they like different drivers. 01 likes the 3.1, 3.2, or 3.5 (for me, 3.2) depending on the card. And 03 likes the later ones 3.9, 4.1, 4.2, etc (3.9 work best w/ mine). And you'll probably see a better score w/ DirectX 8.1b.

But drivers and DX is only a small part. Using DX8.1b and cat 4.1s I got 20694 (http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=7530561) in 01. GPU was at 483/393. Upping your FSB will help alot.

DeathONator, your Dragothic scores look a little low. You should probably be past 21k with a setup like that. Give the Cat 3.5's a shot, and definitely win2k, but give it a couple of runs. One is never enough.

oo_7: You should give Windows 2000 a shot for sure, along with Cat 3.5's. Your (relatively) low fsb is also holding you back. Definitely looks like a 19k rig to me for sure, though.

Correct on the 03...but its more memory bandwidth and CPU for 01 ;)

No doubt I can reach 21k, hopefully pretty easily. At the time of benchmarking I had everything setup for '03. I haven't been in the mood to get into 01SE yet. Maybe during spring break or something. I'll have some time after I get my wisdom teeth pulled... :)

3.7's are better for DX 8.1 (3d mark 01)
4.2's are better for DX 9.0 (3d mark 03)

And definetly use the Omegas...I score a few thousand more marks in 01 just by using Omegas...and score 600+ more by using the Omega 4.2's in 03...

If you want to increase your 3DMARK2001SE scores, achieve the highest FSB possible. 3DMARK2001SE likes high FSB. I gained 500 points just by increasing my FSB by 5Mhz LOL. Good luck!

increase the fsb, I gain 20 marks per MHz fsb. 10MHz fsb gained me 200 more marks. also windows 2k will gain you 500 more marks
