I am refering the center raised area of the PIII about 1/2 an inch sq.

I am wondering what owners of these processors have done to help cool the entire chip, instead of the small raised surface. Has anyone come up with a good method?

I'll share my experiences. I have tried a direct water contact cooling system. Water circulating across the whole top of the CPU core. I also made a square sheet of aluminium with the center cut out to make an equil surface level. I'm going to work on a copper one.

Any ideas of places to pick up quality copper in sheets or any flat copper? all I can find is copper tubing and hose barbs.

that raised area should be the core, and the only space that you need to cool. Not sure though, never played with slot chips.

Ive heard of a guy who used JB weld and filled in the gap around the core he had some success but not really too great maybe 4C but this is permanent so i really would not recommend it, instead of fabricating stuff you may just want to buy a good HSF combo if you make one mistake or let your temps get hot your CPU will be toast. but if your careful and watch your temps so you dont cook it hey who knows maybe you'll invent something really cool.
