I just got my Asus P3V4X mobo and it is very very nice. I have a P3 700Mhz cA2 proc and I am having problems getting it to go above 736 Mhz (7.0*105@1.65v=stable). I cant get to 771Mhz (7.0*110@1.65=not stable), when I get to this I get Windows Messages and it says my registry is messed and other crap like that. I have tried increasing my voltage to 1.7v and I still get the messages. I don't think it is a heat problem either. I have a GlobalWIN VOS32 and 4 case fans. My temps at 736Mhz are 36/42.
I don't know why I can't get past 736Mhz, but does memory have anything to do with it? I have 384MB 100Mhz SDRAM. Does the RAM only let me go to 105 FSB before it can't go higher anymore or what? Sorry, I have no idea, but can you please help me.
Also, I plan on buying a cC0 P3 because I heard they are better for OCing. Is this true? I heard one guy got the cC0 to 1.12Ghz (7.0*160) and it was stable!
Answers and suggestions are greatly appreciated, thank you!

The cA2 dosent OC well I think 850 is arount the peek....youll probally have to raise the voltage higher to get it to go higher, just watch your temps...you might want to check this thread out

I have a PIII700 cC0 it does 1053@1.85v with a Alpha P3125...These are sweet chips!!
Sounds like your pci bus is getting to far out of spec.
I am not familar with the settings for your motherboard
so rtm and try to get the pci bus to run closer 33mhz when overclocked even if it means you have to raise the fsb to a higher setting.

Thanks for your answer. Now I am really going to get the cC0, those things rock! So my memory has nothing to do with it though right? What voltage would you recommend I use? 1.65, 1.7, 1.75, 1.8, 1.85, 1.9, 1.95?

Its probally not the memory...
As for the voltage I would step it up by .05 setps and benchmark between untill you have a stable system.....just watch those temps!!!!
EDIT: as a note I wouldnt reconmend going .3v over stock voltage

I am going for the 1Ghz!
I am going to get the cC0 700Mhz proc...and Mushkin PC-133 128MB REV. 3 2-2-2 memory! Wish me luck, thanks for the answers guys
I think getting the temperature lower could help.
I have a P3 700 FC-PGA cA2. It becomes unstable at 38 °C measured from the edge of the core. And it needs higher voltages to overclock (805 MHz@1.75 V, 866 MHz@1.95 V) - 770 MHz works with default 1.65 V though.

Alright, I have one more quick question. I got my ASUS P3V4X motherboard and it is cabable of getting to 150 FSB and stable. I heard it is also capable of getting to 160 FSB, but its a little unstable.
The mobo comes with the VIA Apollo Pro133A chipset. Can I get to 150 FSB even though the VIA chipset says 133? I'm a little confused....

There 2 versions of the P3V4X.
1.) newer version has winbond clock gen bus of up to 150
2.) older version has ics clock gen if i remember bus of up to 166
If you look at you dimm's you'll see a black chip a little smaller than an inch just to the right of them, thats the clock gen, it will say who made it on it.
yes you will be able to hit fsb150
the posted 133 speed is the reconomended speed, there is a disclamer in the book that says raising bus over 133 may cause damage and there not responsiable, warranty viod etc..
