Hello djnz, welcome to the forums.
My opinion of the current best price/performance is the P3 700. They are getting scarce though. Depending on your budget and current hardware, the members will help you make the right decision. Do you already have a mobo for the chip? If so let us know what you have. As well as asking questions and reading the forum, a great source for general OC proceedures and advice is the beginners guides and the reviews accessible from the home page. Keep in mind that heat is the enemy, hang out in the cooling forum and check out what members are doing to reduce temps. Water-cooling is something you shouldn't consider until youv'e had a lot of experience.
Good luck!

I was thinking of getting a CUSL2-C (Black Pearl) mobo. It seemed nice.

Hey, I just got hold of a 750E from a store here. They said they are still Availible, along with the 800E's. Get a P3-"E" NOT"EB" as you won'tget toofar in OC. My 750E runs at 1000Mhz, at 1.80v.

E means coppermine and B means 133mhz right?
Thnx

Precisely. I'd definitely lean towards the "E" chips...usually get better overclocking results with those. There are quite a few people in here with some screamin' "EB's", though....

I've had some luck with my 600E here, but the 700E to 800E would be a better choice. I've seen a few posts concerning the 800EB (this is similar to my 600E, same 6x multiplier), and these have done well for a few people.

Look thru the database on the front page, and use that as a reference. Bear in mind, though, that people might be more inclined to add their chip to that, if it does well, as opposed to if it doesn't overclock good. Just because someone else got XXXX MHz doesn't guarrantee that you will also.

Each chip overclocks differently. Your milage will vary....=)

on your OEM/Retail question, I'd definitely buy retail. I bought a 933 2 days ago which was retail. It was $9 more than an OEM. I also recently RMA'd a dead PIII500 which was well over a year old. The extra dollars for the Retail on that was was WELL worth it don't cha think? =)
